Best Place to be during a Zombie outbreak?

Where do you think would be the best place to be to defend against zombies? Where would you want to be?

Trying to think of the most fictional place I'd like to be for a fictional zombie apocalypse. I'd have to say I'd want to be somewhere like Academy, Gander Mountain or Bass Pro Sho because of the large amount of ammo and camping supplies on hand.

id say the best place to be would be on a boat, a cruise ship or even better a air craft carrier.

I'm not sure where I would want to be if a zombie outbreak did happen but I do know I want to be farthest away from zombies as possible. The movie "Red" is coming to mind right now even though it doesn't have anything to do with zombies. The part where they are visiting the crazy guy Marvin (John Malkovich) at his house. He had the big beach looking house that was a decoy and the old broke down car in the yard that was really an underground house. I would love to have something like that to live in.

I'm going with water. Harder for anyone to sneak up on you.

Yeah water is a good one, how about a aircraft carrier, those things are like floating cities and typically accompanied by a fleet of destroyers and other smaller military navy vessels.

What do you say about an island specially crafted to cater to such apocalypse?
Of course we have to prepare in advance but such isolated location can always provide a good shelter.

A island is a good one, and I'm surprised nobody else thought of that. As a kid I always a big fan of Swiss Family Robinson's and so I think it would be awesome to be able to live like that.

On a Train with all loaded food, water and fuel, Nothing can stop it or get on it at certain speed and tracks are available all over. It can be stopped at safe places like open plains to save fuel, has all the comforts of home. But it has to be supplied with fuel which can be big drawback.

I do like this idea though because with about 10 or locomotives attached your rail convoy all full of fuel you could get by for awhile because they already hold a enormous amount of fuel and you'd only have to empty out 1 at time when traveling. The major dis-advantage though is the limited routes you can take and if somebody knows the direction you're headed and can get in front of you they'll know exactly where you'll have to pass.

But then no transport can used permanently, even the ship has to dock sometimes for supplies or fuel, unless you can get carrier or submarine which run on nuclear power for 20 odd years. But again who will operate them unless navy units are operating them.

I would opt for a mountain retreat - something self sufficient, sustainable, and defensible. Lots of game and fish. Maybe even a cave where you had a back door or rear access only you know about. The zombies have to come in the front where you can defend yourself. Quiet, peaceful, and very hard to find.

I'd prefer to be on an Island, or perhaps a Cabin up in the mountains, as far away from the Zombies as possible.

Cruise ship, lol, only has 5-8 days of food and with my luck it would pull into an infested port or a zombie would already be on the ship in the ships morge.

Cruise ship might be fun, aside from them largely being filled with old folk which would then lend itself to the not unlikely scenario of it becoming overrun with zombies.

It really doesn't take much to derail a train.. that happens and your mobile hidey hole is a mess of twisted metal.

Island would be a good option, assuming there's enough resources available -- or enough resources and tools were brought -- to sustain you.

Personally, I think the self sufficient mountain retreat is the best option mentioned so far. Being out a long distance from population dramatically reduces the chance of contact with a zombie horde. If it's a self sufficient location, chances are you'd have already been living there and the zombie apocalypse would likely go unnoticed by you, or at least wouldn't have much affect on your quality of life. Life would almost certainly continue to go on as normal.

Of course the same limitations that apply to the island retreat would apply to the mountain retreat, but again I think it's most likely that you'd already be living at the mountain retreat. To already be living at an island retreat -- fully stocked and self sufficient would be even more stellar, but I think for most people the likelihood of attaining the self sufficient mountain retreat is a whole lot more realistic than attaining one on an island.

The only problem is that during a zombie invasion the government, if sill functional, will have sat photos (google maps but better) of everything. So it is also important that whatever you do has some sort of overhead coverage just I case the government thinks you are hear boring zombies.

Maybe a freshly stocked US Naval Nuclear Sub would be a good place to hang out for the first 3 months of a Zombie outbreak.

My optimum location would be in a decommissioned Atlas Bunker! There is one for sale in up state New York for one million dollars. I cant think of a safer place on earth.

right up till you discover that China failed to take that bunker off it's target list. You may survive the near direct hit but you won't be able to walk out of the facility for 10 years

I got three and will explain why I pick these three.

    School
Im still in it but boy there will be freaky stuff in every corner.
Also as there is no generic layout, deciding whether a public school is a good place to hole up can be tricky.
Keep in mind the general rules of defense. Unfortunately for our society but
fortunately for a zombie siege, inner-city schools have taken on a fortress-like atmosphere. Not only are
the buildings themselves built to withstand a riot, but chain-link fences surrounding them make these halls
of education look more like military compounds. Food and medical supplies should be readily available
from the cafeteria, the nurse’s station, or the physical-education office. Often, a school is your best
bet—perhaps not for education but certainly for protection from an undead attack.

    Retail Store
For Class 1(It's when it starts) uprisings, many types of retail stores will provide adequate shelter. Those with roll-down
gates, solid or otherwise, can stop up to ten zombies for several days. If the siege lasts any longer or if
more zombies arrive, the situation may change dramatically. Enough rotting fists, enough heaving forms
smashing against the gate will eventually break it down. Always have an alternate escape route planned,
so that if the barricade is breached, you can quickly move on. If you can’t formulate a solid Plan B, do
not consider this place a refuge. Stores without gates should not be considered. Their display windows
will do nothing more than advertise you to the zombies.

    Piers and Docks
With some modifications, adequate supplies, and the right location, any dock or pier can be made
practically unreachable. Because zombies can neither swim nor climb, their only access would be from
land. Destroying that one access point would leave you on an artificial island.

Out on your boat on the lake fishing with a cold one in hand. No seriously, if I had to choose it would be in any Ammunition Supply Point on a military base. If you've ever walked into one of those bunkers you'll know what I'm talking about. Now granted you are going to need your supplies with you, and find the darn keys to a bunker. But once your in, your Golden!

Boat so anyway, most of us don't have access to one of those ammo bunkers. I've never seen one, but I can only imagine it's pretty darn amazing.

I guess if I were following zombie lore, somewhere cold-it slows them down, super low population density, defensible like as in a couple high fences. Maybe a brand new prison in Alaska that hasn't received any inmates yet. I know this is kind of ripping off walking dead, but I do work in a prison and I know how well prisons are supplied and how secure they are. The prison I work at has huge CAT powered diesel generators set up to power the institution if the power goes out, with huge tanks underneath the generators. Our armory has mini 14's, 870's and for pistols S&W model 64's, thousands of rounds, different kinds of gas as in cs and oc. Dietary departments have enough food to last for a long time, plus there is a warehouse with literally tons of foods. The tool room has every tool you will ever need to fix anything, plus a plumbers room electricians room, carpenters room, vehicle maintenance area with a fleet of vehicles, a personal property area, clothing area, inmate commissary, officer commissary, healthcare unit with a dental unit well stocked meds. Anything else, I can't think of.
